Please have a look at this antique California Gold token for sale. It has been crafted into a beautiful stick pin. This uncommon piece is in attractive circulated condition and comes with a black velvet presentation box.
This token type is believed to have been issued in both solid low karat yellow gold and in gold plated metal. This example appears to be plated copper. Pin shank is made of gold colored mixed metal and is untested by us. This piece measures 2-1/2 inches in length and weighs 0.86 grams.
Token is catalogued by Mike Locke as a Round 1855 California Gold 1/2. It has an Indian #4 obverse with 12 stars and a Wreath #5 reverse. Date is obscured by pin. Piece is believed to have been struck in the 1880's. Research suggests a linkage to Herman J. Brand. He was a coiner of such material and was active from 1873 to 1903.
Wreath #5 tokens are generally known to be gold plated but a few types are known in solid gold. Our example looks to be plated. Whatever its composition, this is a scarce and interesting piece! This small charm is not denominated and is not legal tender; just an unusual old token.
This stick pin is in nice circulated condition. It is very attractive with great detail and lustrous color. The pin shank is straight and sports an elegant twist detail. Token has a planchet flaw or test mark on the portrait. The gleaming rose and honey gold color makes for great eye appeal. Token displays pleasing light toning in hues of rose and plum. Honest and mostly even wear to the gilt is noted. What a lovely piece this is!
The presentation box is finished in black velvet with brass colored accents. The faux silk and velvet interior is crisp and attractive. This sturdy box has great snap and closure. Excellent!
