Description
Leitz Laborlux-POL polarizing microscope. Microscope comes with FS21 trinocular photo Pol-tube for three 23.2 mm eyepieces, Monocular inclined Pol-tube P11 for 30mm eyepiece with Bertrand lens and pinhole. The condenser is the 702fL polarizing condenser. Swing-out analyzer in the stand. Optics include two GF10X 23.2 mm eyepieces, and one 8X 30mm Huygens eyepiece with adjustable eyelens and crosshairs. The pol achromatic Leitz objectives are 3.5X, 10X, 40X, and 50X special conoscopic objective, all with 37mm parfocal length. Built-in low voltage 6V 15 watt lamp with transformer/CB16.5 blue filter included. Quadruple revolving objective nosepiece with individual centering and objective centering clutch with one centering collar, both accepting compensators at 45 degrees. The cosmetic condition is very good with engraving on some pieces, and two replacement thumbscrews. The polarizer is lightly browned and a little wrinkled but still gives good extinction. All controls and locks work smoothly, but the field diaphragm is a little stiff. All optics in good condition and free of major defects such as large scratches, excessive dust, delamination or fungus. Some coating loss in the binocular prisms but very hard to notice. Like any instrument this old, it could benefit from further cleaning and CLA as needed. The trinocular FS21 more properly belongs with the Dialux-Pol microscope, but works well with this Laborlux, too, particularly for photomicrography. (see enclosed photomicrographs of thin section taken with this scope, its10x objective and optional camera). I have used this scope for about two years and enjoyed operating this fine instrument.
