    Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA) Egyptian Lion Pendant from the King Tut Exhibit in 1976
    Cast gold tone plated lioness figurine pendant.
    Size
    : Measures 1-3/4" long by 7/8" wide  and 1" tall. Solid metal weighing 48 grams.
    Marks
    : “MMA 1976” which stand for Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City
    Symbolism/History:
    This piece dates to the mid 1970s when the tour of King Tut's treasures in the USA influenced a revival of all things Egyptian. This is a reproduction of a statue produced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and was sold in their museum shop.  According to legend, the lion represents a treasure found in the village of Tod in Egypt believed to belong to Amenemhet I.  Please see pictures for details of this unique and very collectible piece.
