    Description

Nikon Optiphot Polarizing Microscope Petrographic POL.
The Nikon Optiphot polarizing microscope is NOT like new, not perfectly clean but in working condition consistent with its duration of use.
It’s tested and produced good quality of polarizing images in a thin section of mineral crystals.
-Light: 12V 50W. Powers up. The needle indicator always stays in the middle and doesn’t respond with the voltage change. However the actual intensity/voltage responds linearly and smoothly with the potentiometer adjustment.
    -cassette of ND filters
-field diaphragm adjustment smooth , Koehler illumination established well
-condenser achromatic 0.9 NA dial in/out with iris
-rotatable polarizer with angle marker 0,90,180,270 mounted in the condenser carrier
-Nikon Rotatable circular stage with vernier scales. The finger slider moves well. The clip is missing though. So a bit of inconvenience. The stage is centered very well. The sample interest area stays in the center of the view even in the highest magnification when the stage rotates.
    -centerable nosepiece with 4x P, E plan 10x and 40x objectives lens.
-intermediate tube with rotatable analyzer and full wave (530nm) and quarter wave plate, minor scuffs consistent with its usage but No broken or delamination. The mounting screw to fix the head is mildly bent bit no problem in its functionality.
-Trinocular head with Bertrand lens selection. O: regular imaging, B: Bertrand dial in, minor dust seen on the Bertrand lens.
-Nikon eyepieces: CFW10x CM with diopter adjustment. One of them has division reticle.
    - Focus: fine focus not working well. Coarse focus works smooth and responds very well at the highest magnification.
    - Nikon Optiphot POL stand
So overall it’s a complete and working polarizing microscope with all of the Nikon components. There are minor issues and inconvenience with its age, but they don’t affect the overall performance of the microscope.
    Thanks.
