Subject: Painting represents queen Nefertari travelling on a night boat made of papyrus, progressing from the netherworld to the Hall of Judgment, as a way to achieve eternal life. The Queen is being assisted on her journey by several goddesses. On the far right is the goddess Nephthys, the “Friend of the Dead.” She is depicted as a woman with the hieroglyphic symbols of her name (a basket and a house, stacked on top of each other) situated atop her head. Nephthys is the youngest daughter of Nut, sister of Isis and Osiris, and the sister-consort of Seth.
