    Description

PAPYRUS - what is it?  It is a material similar to thick paper, used in the ancient Nile Delta and
    Mediterranean
    regions of the
    Africa's
    .
First known to have been used in Egypt, as far back as the First Dynasty, and the plant was abundant in that area.  Apart from a writing material, Egyptians employed the material in the construction of other
artifacts, such as reed boats, mats, rope, sandals, and baskets.
    This material was first
manufactured in Egypt as far back as the 4th millennium.  The latest excavation find was in 2012/13 at Wadi al-Jarf, on the Red Sea.  These documents depicted the last years of building the Great Pyramid.

This item measures twenty-seven (27")  inches in width and thirty-seven (37") in height.
Generally these papyrus are purchased in smaller sizes, but as a painter and sculptor myself, I felt that they were much more dramatic in a larger size. This particular papyrus is further enhanced by the artist using  24 kt. gold gilt.
The item we photographed, after thirty (30) year in a cylinder, have some natural wrinkles.  Once mounted, the wrinkles are naturally flattened to show every event nuisance depicted in the painting.  AN EDUCATIONAL PIECE TO BE CERTAIN.
This item is in excellent/original condition, unaltered in any way, of a natural fiber, with paints and gilding adhered to the material.
