This item was part of a collection I purchased years ago.
I would consider this an advertising token or fantasy issue, also collectible for its historical design and for bank token issues.

The authentic siege monies history is as follows:"Under siege by the Spanish in 1577, residents of the city of Groningen in what is now The Netherlands, donated their silver plate to be made into emergency money. Clipped into square pieces, the plate was stamped to validate it as money so that the business of the city could go on. This piece, copied from an original struck in 1577, is typical of the many siege and emergency pieces issued in Europe during this time.
